Me!
Book making workshop after the meeting. CRAZY!

So while I wait for the incredibly slow internet connection to upload my photos I thought I would take some time to write. I am more frenetic here than I originally had thought. There are a lot of surprises when you go to a new place. Even if you are one of those people who say “Oh no I have no preconceived notions or expectations…”
The cost of living in a lot of ways here is equal to if not more expensive than in the US. Hurray free trade; Choking the life out of local industries in order to make way for exploitative multinationals…. Coming to a neighborhood near you! I guess I am also surprised to see how built up things are here. Part of me was expecting to wake up surrounded by cows and chickens. I do wake up surrounded by wildlife; wild drivers, wild dogs, wildly painted houses, the occaisional rooster crowing at a midnight streetlight….
I have to stop now and again. Just to do nothing but take moment to enjoy a big facewide grin. I am happy. I have a rare opportunity to do exactly what I love doing most in life 24 hours a day: making art that truly serves the greater good. (Now give me my damn tiara! Just kidding. I truly mean that. It is an honor to have the opportunity to offer my (he)ART, time, and energy to a community that can really benefit from it. I can’t count my blessings they are too numerous)
Today I went to Zacualpa to attend a meeting intended to organize local women around community problems. You can see the photos. There is a new and energetic Coordinadora in the new office of women’s affairs. Friday the directora of the library is going to go and speak with her about the possibility of a women’s march on March 8th. She sounds enthused. The library and I are building giant puppets for the March. I have to be patient. Even with the support of the mayor the speed of organizing is very…. Um…. Organic. As in organic snails racing organic cornstalks to see who can reach the sky first.
Hmmm…. It looks like the library is closing I gotta run.
